7 Efficient Ways to Save Energy at Home

Not all people truly understand that the energy source they consume contributes to the greenhouse effect than the gaseous smoke emitted by the cars they drive.

The most commonly used energy source used at home is through coal, oil and gas which contribute to the increase in carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.  The more carbon dioxide is released, the more climate change occurs.  Everyone should be aware of the energy conservation so that we may slow down the effects of global warming and make the environment much more suitable to live in.

Here are simple and efficient ways regarding energy conservation and solutions to the worsening greenhouse effect.

Following these 7 simple tips will help lower both greenhouse emissions and your energy bills:

1. Check the air filters of your air conditioner or heating system.  Just like a regular roof that needs gutter guards to be preserved. A dirty air filter blocks the air flow and the equipment consumes more energy just to maintain the temperature.  Clean or replace the air filters at least once a month.

2. Switch to windows that promote energy conservation.  There are manufacturers such as Energy-Star that specializes in specially coated windows and doors.  Some countries offer incentives to participating households and establishments who switch to energy saving products.

3. Check your walls, windows, doors and ceilings for air leaks.  A good idea is to install insulation sheets on your walls to prevent additional heat and maintain temperature.  The basement or attic is a good start.

4. Change the light bulbs in your household.  An energy efficient alternative is by using fluorescent light bulbs.  Energy saving light bulbs normally use 75% less energy and can last ten times more than an ordinary light bulb.  Start with the light bulbs in the common areas of your household.

5. Have a good habit of switching off the appliances, electronics and lights when you are not using them or when you leave the room.  Make sure you keep your refrigerator door shut tight every time you take out or put something in it.

6. Peak season items come with peak prices.  It is a wise idea to buy during off season for retail stores tend to offer large discounts and other promotions.  Look around for the most efficient model.

7. If you have a space for a garden, take time to plant a tree.  Not only trees and plants provide a good natural shade, it also beautifies your home and minimizes the greenhouse effect.

The greenhouse effect is caused by gaseous waste when energy is consumed or produced.  So when people use less energy, it minimizes the gasses emitted.  Promoting energy conservation not only helps the environment but also gives you big savings on your utility bills.  So go green!
